Business Contract Hire: costs and considerations

A guide to Business Contract Hire and the questions a business should consider before leasing a vehicle.

Hire arrangements differ from credit. Sandhurst Associates Limited's FCA authorisation relates to credit-broking activities; the provider will confirm the regulatory status of an arrangement before you proceed.

Business Contract Hire (BCH) is a fixed-term vehicle rental for eligible organisations. The business pays an initial rental and monthly rentals, then returns the vehicle.

How it works

  1. Select the vehicle, term, mileage and initial rental.
  2. The funder assesses the business.
  3. Use and maintain the vehicle within the contract terms.
  4. Return it for mileage and condition checks.

What to check before you apply

  • VAT and tax treatment with a qualified adviser.
  • Business and private-use mileage.
  • Maintenance, insurance and early termination terms.
  • Any director guarantee or security requirement.

A realistic note

Tax treatment depends on circumstances and rules can change. This website does not provide tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

Can a sole trader use BCH?

Some funders accept sole traders, subject to their criteria.

Can employees use the vehicle privately?

It may be permitted, but tax and insurance implications need checking.

Does the business own the vehicle?

No. The funder retains ownership.
